Record keeping your homeschool journey

We are going into our sixth year homeschooling. Up until now the only record keeping we have been doing is the required homeschool testing results we put each year in a binder. Also any psychological testing and behavior goals we have received from our sons developmental pediatrician and psychologist. In NC homeschool portfolios are not a requirement but now that the kids are middle school age I am thinking that tracking their monthly/yearly progress might be a good idea. In the next few months I am going to be putting one together and would love any ideas from homeschool experts out there.

  1. In the past, I haven't assigned number grades to individual lessons for the simple fact that we don't move on until he's mastered the skill. We do it until he knows it cold, so 100's across the board, right?

This year I'm making little number notations in my plan book beside each assignment. We still don't move on until the skill is mastered, but now I can see at a glance how long that takes. I've also found that he likes to see his grades in the book - he's proud that a particular lesson only took a try or two, for instance.

  2. Again, give ma a ring anytime and I can tell you what I did. It can be a daunting thought, but its pretty easy once you get a method down. Hugs to you all!
